Join us on our very first "ASTRA " Clan Gathering to be held on the 6th and 7th Ocotber 2012

at the Astra Sheepdog Centre, Dunnichen, Forfar.

Open Days for our Owners and Students (anyone who has trained with us over the years)

  • Meet up opportunity,
  • Make new friends, 
  • Find out how the siblings of your dog is doing.
  • Do they remember each other?
  • Try your hand at handling a sheepdog on sheep.
  • Learn something NEW !

We have extended the Gathering to include two days.

Saturday and Sunday.

We are arranging to have a BVA Opthalmic specialist Vet available on the Saturday to carry out Opthalmic Eye Testing for (Pastoral Breeds Health Foundation)


ALSO a vet/nurse will be available to collect samples for the following:-

  1. Optigen DNA Testing for TNS and CL :- CEA does not need to be done as 90% of ASTRA's are normal for CEA.
  2. Blood draw for the IDIOPATHIC EPILESPY study being done with the Animal Health Trust.
  3. Blood draw for the purposes of Glaucoma genetic research identification of genetic diseases in dogs for Professor Kim Summers at the Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh (Pastoral Breeds Health Foundation)
  4. Collection of buccal samples from dogs for the identification of genetic diseases in dogs Professor Kim Summers at the Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh. (Pastoral Breeds Health Foundation)

It will not be financially viable for owners to participate unless we have a minimum of 30 dogs Guaranteed for blood draw and Eye testing.

We will provide tea and coffee, soups and cordials for both days.

Well behaved human children and owners non-Astra dogs are welcome.
