The Male in companion dog breeding is very important. If he is an exceptional stud dog he will stamp his puppies with a very similar picture of himself. This picture is made up mainly of his physical appearance and GENETIC character and genetic abilities only, as he plays no part in the environmental raising of his progeny. A good stud is recognisable instantly by looking at his progeny.

NEVER, NEVER compromise on the qualities of the Stud Dog. If the Stud dog is of poor genetic and physical quality then you will produce dissapointing puppies. Don't just use the closest Stud, use the Stud that is going to improve as many of the Females qualities as possible. If it means going half way around the world then its worth the risk.
